Things to watch out for from other dealers
- Price
- If the price is to good to believe, then it probably is. Like everything there are different qualities of systems out there. Some only last a few years but don’t cost you much up front. The problem is, how do you know its working?
- Warranty
- How far will they need to travel to help you? Many companies will offer systems for sale but, when it comes to service they don’t show up because its to far. Make sure they service your area and what charges may apply to you.
- Installation
- OK this is a big one. Do they install what they sell? If not then who covers you when its a problem with the system, the dealer or the installer.
- Is the installation being done to local codes? Many manufacturers will not warranty a system that is incorrectly installed. If your system is installed with an illegal drain were they run it out onto the ground or direct connect the drain to your sewer line you could have a cross contamination. This means your septic or sewer could enter your drinking water. Do you want to drink sewage?
- Systems
- Mixed bed systems. This is were they put multiple types of media in one tank to treat a variety of problems. The first thing you should ask is how often is the media replaced and how much does it cost? Since all the media is in one tank you will have to replace it all to do the job right. This is why Kinetico uses multiple tanks connected together when the system has more than one media.
- What is the system designed to do? Water softeners are designed to remove iron, calcium and manganese but do not change the smell of the water. Also is the system designed for your water need? Some systems are for municipal water only and do not last on well water. They may even become a breeding ground for things in the water.
